Laryngitis - Causes, Symptoms And Treatment By Home Remedies
| ||||||||||
Laryngitis is characterized by hoarseness. Most cases of acute laryngitis are caused by viruses (rhinovirus, influenza virus, parainfluenza virus, coxsackievirus, adenovirus, or respiratory syncytial virus).
Acute laryngitis may also be associated with group A Streptococcus and M. catarrhalis. Laryngitis must be differentiated from epiglottitis.
Chronic laryngitis due to infection is rare and must be distinguished from hoarseness of neoplastic etiology.
Tuberculous laryngitis may be mistaken for laryngeal cancer when assessed by direct laryngoscopy.
Cause of Laryngitis
The most common cause of laryngitis is a viral infection. Laryngitis can also be caused by a bacterial infection. People who smoke, sing and talk loudly for excessive periods of time are more susceptible to laryngitis.
