Say No to Gnats
Say NO to Gnats
Gnats infesting your indoors are commonly known as fungus gnats. They are annoying as well as harmful to young plants. The gnats leave their larvae on the roots and stems of plants and damage their seedlings. Some gnats also bite human beings and it is really difficult to get rid of them by batting around. Stop gnats from getting near youIf you are fond of indoor gardening, make sure that you get healthy and bug-free plants. In order to be sure, keep it isolated from the already existing plants and observe it for at least two weeks for possible signs of diseases. After you are satisfied with this test, you can place the new plants with the other ones. The next step is to refrain from over-watering them since moist and warm conditions are ideal for gnats’ growth. Stick to a two-weekly watering schedule to allow the soil to remain dry and free from larvae. Be a regular about removing dry and decaying parts in plants. Spread a layer of sand atop the soil of the pot and use a non-toxic spray for your outdoor plants. Learn to deal with gnats inside your houseIf gnats have already found their way to your interiors, a few home-made tricks can help you get rid of them. A paste of apple cider vinegar and baking soda in a shallow dish placed near breeding grounds can help. Just stick a length of fly paper over this mixture and trap away most of the gnats. A solution made with wine and apple cider vinegar or beverages like cola also helps catch gnats. Coat the drains on the outside with oil to stop the gnats from breeding. Another domestic trap is to fill 3/4th of a big jar with vinegar and make holes in the lid. When this bottle is placed near infested area, the gnats will plunge into it and drown. |
