It is a big question, how you get rid of cats and once the cats are caught what needs to be done with them. The most effective way to deal with feral colonies of cats is trap-neuter-release method. However, this strategy does not get rid of cats immediately. Now, first of all, the kind of cats you want to get rid of is to be judged. Are they the neighborhood pet cats, or are they part of some big feral colony or are they just stray cats? Decide on this and follow the following methods to deal the cat problem.

Pet Cats:

If the cat you are trying to shoo away is a neighborhood pet, you cannot simply shoot it. Killing registered pets is a criminal offence. Talk to the owner and if the owner does not do anything, call the animal control officer. These officers will definitely solve your problem.

Sprinklers:

If the animal control officer is not helping, its time to take the matters in own hands! It’s a proven fact that cats loath water. Get a motion activated sprinkler, and watch the cat, which stealthily enters your lawn, getting soaked and running for its life.

Stray Cats:

If you see a cat which is tame but you cannot identify the owner, call the local veterinarians to find out the owner who might be looking for the cat. If it fails, adopting the cat is a good option. Both these ways will leave with a pocket pinch. So, if the cat is good enough to sit on your lap, adopting it is the best option. At least it will help you get rid of other nasty small pests.

Feral Cats:

Feral cats of the age more than 10 months cannot be domesticated at any rate. So it is to be trapped and the same trap-neuter-release method should be employed. On the other hand, a cat of age less than 10 weeks can be domesticated. Hand I over to the local humane society and they will try to socialize it. You can do this yourself too.
