Ankle injuries are quite common in our day to day activities. One can get a sprained ankle while doing any common activities. Once you get a sprained ankle, its pain won’t let you be at peace. Many a time’s swelling also occurs in the region. However the pain will not be a problem anymore with some simple treatment procedures, which will not only heal the sprained ankles, but will also make its recovery faster.
Treatments for sprained ankle
The first and the foremost step after ankle sprain should be application of ice. Application of ice will prevent swelling and will kill the pain in that area. Many a times, application of ice helps in the contraction of the muscles which eventually results in healing of ankle sprain.
The ankle that has got the sprain should be compressed by a so called bandage so that the sprain can be healed at a faster rate. Another important way in which one can cure the ankle sprain is by keeping the ankle at a raised height. This can be done by keeping two three pillows under the ankle for raised support. This also helps in faster healing of ankle sprain.
Measures that should be taken with sprained ankle
Take special care of the sprained ankle so that it is not injured by any means. Any injury will make the condition worse and will result in critical state. It is a common believe that the more ice one puts on the sprained ankle, the better and faster it heals, but it is a wrong concept. Ice should not be applied for more than 20 minutes. Also ice should not be applied directly and should be ion a form of ice bag.
The compression bandage should be firm, but not tight. Excessive tight compression will lead to no circulation and will slower the process of healing of ankle sprain.
