Congenital heart disease: Symptoms, Causes and Home Treatment

Herbal Home Remedies for curing Congenital heart disease

A far less common form of heart disease is due to defects in the heart present at birth. There are different congenital defects. In one a narrowed or stenosed valve reduces the flow from the heart to the lungs. Other defects allow mixing of pure and impure blood in the heart. In coarctation, where the aorta -the major artery carrying blood from the heart - is narrowed, a reduced flow of pure blood to the body can lead to cardiac failure even in infancy. The failure to close of a shunt (which is present in the foetus) - a condition called patent ductus arteriosus - allows blood to flow continuously through the aorta into the artery going to the left lung.

Symptoms of congenital heart disease depend on the type of defects present. They may include tiring easily, dizziness, breathlessness on exertion, chest pain, high Bp, collapse, failure to grow, and a bluish appearance of skin and mucosa (cyanosis).

But the disease may be symptom less till cardiac failure occurs. At times abnormal heart sounds or other signs may be noticed during examination for another problem. Consult early, for any of the above symptoms. Surgical treatment is often required.
